QuickBooks ProAdvisor Recertification FAQ

Open August 3 – September 30, 2026.

Not sure where you stand? We'll email everyone who's required to recertify, so you don't need to track this manually.

How do I check my current certification status or expiration date before the deadline?
Go to the ProAdvisor training tab in Intuit Accountant Suite or QuickBooks Online Accountant, your certification status and any recertification requirement will be listed there.

I'm QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified. Does this affect me?
Yes, Advanced-certified (Level 2) ProAdvisors must also recertify. The exam is the same regardless of certification level; passing it maintains whichever level you currently hold.

I've held certifications under multiple QuickBooks Online Accountant accounts. Do I need to recertify on all of them?
No. You only need to recertify on the QBOA account you're actively using, even if you receive reminder emails for other accounts.

If my firm's primary admin doesn't recertify, does that affect my individual Find-a-ProAdvisor listing?
No. Find-a-ProAdvisor profiles are certified at the individual level, not the firm level, so your listing isn't tied to anyone else's status.

If I switch firms or my QBOA account changes, does my certification transfer with me?
Certification is tied to the individual, not the firm. If you're unsure how a firm change affects your specific account, contact support (below) to confirm before the deadline.

Where do I access the exam?
From the ProAdvisor training tab inside  Intuit Accountant Suite or QuickBooks Online Accountant.

What's the format, and how long does it take?
20 multiple-choice and true/false questions. If you're current on the latest features, expect under 30 minutes.

What score do I need to pass?
You need to score 80% or higher to pass the exam.

How many attempts do I get?
Unlimited. There's no cap and no stated waiting period between attempts if you don't pass on the first try.

Is prep material available?
Yes. An optional eLearning module built specifically as exam prep, plus a playlist of this year's relevant webinars (no live recertification webinars are scheduled). You can also register for the ongoing In the Know, Canada series to stay current on product releases year-round.

Will I get confirmation or a certificate once I pass?
Yes. You will receive a certificate and your certification hub will reflect the new dates.

Is the exam available in French?
Yes it is. Switch your in product language preferences to French to access a French exam.

What's the exact deadline?
September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET.

What happens if I miss the deadline or don't attempt the exam?

Your Certified ProAdvisor status becomes inactive, and the associated ProAdvisor points are removed from your balance. Your Find-a-ProAdvisor listing may also be removed. A lower points balance can in turn drop your ProAdvisor tier and its benefits.

How do I reinstate my status if I miss the deadline?

You'll need to rewrite the full QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Online Advanced certification exam(s). Recertification alone won't reinstate a lapsed status.

Is there any extension process for extenuating circumstances (e.g., leave, illness)?

Please reach out directly to ca_training@intuit.com.

Do I earn points for completing recertification?
Recertifying maintains your existing points, no new points are awarded for completion.

Is there a cost to recertify?
No, ProAdvisor training & certification is free and available to all ProAdvisors.
